with Tom DeFiglio and Pat T
This is an offshoot of shelter-in-place project #1. These numbers include Tom playing drums and Pat T on bass, often with some MIDI instruments in the mix fleshing it out.
Here's what we've come up with so far... These are in reverse order of recording, so the newest tune is at the beginning of the list and the earliest at the end.
All mixes by Tom DeFiglio.
This is a John Scofield tune from his 2000 album Bump. We started on this in early 2021, but somehow it didn't enter the final stretch until August 2023. For some inexplicable reason I didn't communicate to Tom about his first mix and it sat around unfinished until April 2024. Finally posted 29 May 2024.
This is an instrumental jam tune by Alphonso Johnson and Joe Zawinul from Weather Report's 1974 album Mysterious Traveler. Most of this was recorded in 2021 but I was never happy enough with the guitar parts to post it. Finally, early in 2024 I dusted it off and redid much of them, though some of the original parts stayed in. Originally posted 25 May 2024.
This is an instrumental tune by Stevie Ray Vaughan from his 1989 album In Step. I played a "piano" solo using my guitar into the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2 plugin like I did recording "Palladium" below. Originally posted 27 April 2021; updated mix posted 25 May 2024.
We have long wanted to play this tune, which is from John Scofield's 2013 album Überjam Deux. We were going to do a version with Jeff Kamil on second guitar, but he dropped out. Tom had the inspired idea to just copy my original guitar solo in reverse and put it in there where Jeff's solo would have gone. Pat T plays bass. Originally posted 1 August 2020. Tom later had John Casolary contribute an organ part, posted 31 August 2020; updated mix posted 25 May 2024.
This is a great Wayne Shorter composition from Weather Report's 1977 Heavy Weather album. I played keyboard and sax parts using my guitar into the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2 plugin, which converts the guitar audio into MIDI notes that can be routed to any MIDI instrument. Pat T kills it on bass. Originally posted 25 July 2020; remixed with a "real" ending rather than a fade-out and posted 28 November 2022; updated mix posted 25 May 2024.
This is a tune by Herbie Hancock from his 1973 Head Hunters album. Originally posted 16 June 2020; updated mix posted 25 May 2024
